Flax Scutcher
Flax Scutcher
a machine for removing shives and other nonfibrous matter from flax fiber. The TL-40 machine used in the USSR has two scutching sections and an automatic feeder. A section consists of a gripping conveyor and a pair of scutching drums. The crushed flax stock is moved by hand to the automatic feeder whose rollers take it to the gripping conveyor. While the stock is moving along the sections it is struck by the beaters of the scutching drums and a fan cleans shives that are adhering to the fiber. The long fiber that is obtained is removed from the conveyor by hand and tied in bundles. The productivity of the flax scutcher is 35-100 kg of fiber an hour.
