Breeding and Genetics of Agricultural Animals, Institute of
(full name, All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Breeding and Genetics of Agricultural Animals), a research institute established in Leningrad in 1969. In 1974 the institute had departments of general genetics, breeding and genetics of dairy cattle, breeding ańd genetics of swine, breeding and genetics of poultry, biology of reproduction and artificial insemination of agricultural animals, and physiology and biochemistry of lactation. There is a laboratory for the selection of cattle and poultry according to resistance to leukemia. The experimental farms in Pushkin and Koltushi are managed by the institute. The institute develops theoretical principles for the breeding of agricultural animals and for pedigree stock raising. The graduate program offers full-time and correspondence courses.
