Breather

 

a device for connecting the interior of a crank-case with the atmosphere. Breathers prevent the buildup of pressure within the crankcase and the attendant extrusion of oil through leaks; they also prevent dust from being sucked into the crankcase. A filter is installed to purify the air passing through the breather.
