fatigue strength[fə′tēg ‚streŋkth] (mechanics) The maximum stress a material can endure for a given number of stress cycles without breaking. Also known as endurance strength. fatigue strengthA measure of the ability of a material or structural element to carry a load without failure when the loading is repeated a definite number of times.fatigue strengthThe maximum stress that can be sustained for a specified number of cycles without failure; the stress is completely reversed within each cycle unless other-wise stated.
