Established: Authorized on December 20, 1975.
Location:In Straits State Park near Saint Ignace, Michigan, just west of I-75 off US 2.
Facilities:Current attractions include the memorial, an outdoor 15-station interpretive trail, and a panoramic view of the Mackinac Bridge.
Activities:Modern camping (in Straits State Park).
Special Features:The memorial pays tribute to the life and work of Father Jacques Marquette, French priest and explorer. He established Michigan's earliest European settlements at Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace in 1668 and 1671, and lived among the Great Lakes Indians from 1666 until his death in 1675.
