Cremin, Lawrence

Cremin, Lawrence (Arthur)

(1925–90) historian, educator; born in New York City. A professor at Teachers College, Columbia University (1948–90), Cremin was president of Teachers College (1974–84) and the Spencer Foundation (1985–90). His major published works include a Pulitzer Prize-winning 3-volume history of American education (1970–80) and Popular Education and its Discontents (1990).
