Location:In Jack County, on the south side of the city of Jacksboro, on US 281 South.

Special Features:Fort Richardson is the northernmost of five historic Texas forts designated as State Historic Sites. (The others are Fort Griffin, Fort Lancaster, Fort Leaton, and Fort McKavett.) Established in 1867 after the Civil War, the fort was used as a military installation until 1878. Several of the original buildings are preserved, and interpretive exhibits describe the history of the fort. The 10-mile trailway runs adjacent to Fort Richardson and along Lost Creek.
