Drutsk, Principality of
one of the appanage Russian principalities, formed on the territory of the Polotsk land in the mid-12th century. The principality was located in the basin of the upper course of the Drut’ River (a tributary of the Dnieper). Its center was the city of Drutsk. Around the mid-13th century it was seized by Lithuania. The territory of the Drutsk Principality was returned to Russia in 1772.
