BRCA-related gynecologic cancer

A generic term for any cancer affecting female tissues—e.g., breast, ovaries, uterus—which occurs more commonly in those with mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2.
 
Examples
• Breast—60 to 85% lifetime risk.
• Ovarian—15 to 65% lifetime risk.
 
Management
Prophylactic (risk reducing) salpingo-ooporectomy is associated with a marked reduction in future development of breast cancer.
