echogenic bowel echogenic bowelA hyperechoic mass that may be seen in the fetal abdomen by ultrasound in the second trimester. If ascites is not present, this is probably due to an enlargement of the fetal bowel. Finding this mass in the second trimester of pregnancy is thought to be associated with an increased and significant risk of an abnormal number of chromosomes (i.e., aneuploidy). |
