Brannan, Charles F. (Franklin)

(1903– ) lawyer, cabinet member; born in Denver, Colo. A Denver lawyer (1929–35) and cattle rancher (1940–48), he was regional director of the Farm Security Administration (1941–44). Assistant secretary of agriculture (1944–48), he became Truman's secretary of agriculture (1948–53), advocating price supports for American farmers and an international wheat agreement. Afterward he practiced law in Denver.
