1. A non-profit organization that monitors newspapers, magazines and other media that sell advertising space. It researches the audiences, readership and other information on non-traditional media in North America. Advertisers provide funding for the Bureau because they use this information in making business decisions. It was established in 1914.

2. A non-profit organization that provides much the same service for British and Irish traditional media. It was established in 1931.
