Fatei

Fatei

a tribe that lived near the Maeotae along the Fat River (a tributary of the Kuban’) from the fourth to first centuries B.C. They generally lived in villages of pile dwellings, although they also built fortified towns. The area inhabited by the Fatei was densely populated. Although the Fatei were nominally subordinate to the Bosporan state, their military strength was such (more than 40,000 foot soldiers and cavalry) that the clan tribal leadership was often engaged in political struggle with their overlords.
