Brake Valve

a device that controls the brakes of railroad rolling stock. It is mounted in the engineer’s cabin in the locomotive and is a part of the braking system of the train. The valve is opened and closed by turning a special handle. The brake valve is used to charge the brake pipeline, to release compressed air from it, and to maintain a specified pressure. In some countries (the USSR, the USA, and France) remote-controlled brake valves are also used.
