释义 | Davidson, JoDavidson, Jo,1883–1952, American sculptor, b. New York City. He studied at the Art Students League and the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. He is known especially for his portrait busts, which display vigorous modeling and psychological insight. Davidson made likenesses of some of the leading figures of the 20th cent., including Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, and Albert Einstein. His autobiography, Between Sittings, was published in 1951.Davidson, Jo(1883–1952) sculptor; born in New York City. He studied at the Art Students League (c. 1899), Yale Art School (c. 1890), worked in New York, lived primarily in Paris (1907–c. 1940), and settled in Lahaska, Pa. (1940). He is known for his sculptured portraits of Woodrow Wilson (1916), Gertrude Stein (1920), and those of Allied war leaders (1918–19). |
