Dezhnev Cape the northeasternmost tip of the Asian continent on the Chukchi Peninsula (66°05’ N lat., 169°40’ W long.). The Dezhnev Cape is an isolated, flat-topped mountain massif, with an elevation of up to 741 m, steeply falling to the sea. It was named by N. A. E. Nordenskjold in 1879 in honor of S. I. Dezhnev, who rounded the cape for the first time in 1648 with Popov (Fedot Alekseev). The populated area of Uelen is located on the cape. |
