drug-eluting coronary stent

drug-e·lut·ing cor·o·nar·y stent

(drŭg'ē-lūt'ing kōr'ŏ-nar-ē stent) A widely used device with metal surfaces that are coated with a drug to prevent restenosis; used to maintain luminal patency; some study results suggest that when the drug wears off and leaves the bare metal exposed, there is a possibility of acute heart attack and sudden death.
