European Sea Bass

 

(Morone labrax), a fish of the family Serranidae. They measure up to 1 m long and weigh up to 12 kg. Distributed in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean Sea, the European sea bass is rarely found in the Black Sea. A large part of this fisn’s life is spent in deep waters. It has the coloration of pelagic forms, with a dark back, silvery sides, and a white belly. The European sea bass feeds on small fish and shrimp. It spawns in summer and autumn, and its roe are pelagic. The fish is of little commercial value.
