Composite wood Composite woodMan-made wood is produced using adhesives to bind together the strands, particles, fibers, or veneers of wood to form a composite product. This wood can be “green” when the wood fiber is provided by scrap or waste wood, when the adhesives are low or no VOC (volatile organic compound), and when the resulting product—often used for outdoor decks—eliminates the need for initial and periodic painting, staining, or waterproofing. The substitution of vegetable fibers from potentially sustainable sources, such as rye, wheat, and rice straw, for wood fibers can also result in a similar engineered green cellulosic product. Also known as engineered wood. |
