Engler Degree
Engler Degree
(after the German chemist K. O. Eng-ler), a subsidiary unit of conventional fluid viscosity; used in technology, particularly in the petroleum and chemical industries. The value of the Engler degree is established by dividing the discharge time (in sec) of 200 cu cm of the fluid being tested, at a given temperature, through a CV (Engler) viscometer by the time of discharge (in sec) of 200 cu cm of distilled water through the same viscometer at standard temperature (20° C). The conversion of Engler degrees into units of kinematic viscosity is done according to an empirical formula or a table.
