fast response unit

fast response unit

A UK term of art for a vehicle that can be deployed to the scene of a medical emergency. While the term refers to any such vehicle, certain FRUs (e.g., cars, motorcycles and bicycles), which are more accessible than larger vans or helicopters, deploy a single paramedic carrying the bare essentials (e.g., oxygen, defibrillator, epi-pens, nitrates) who treats and triages and decides whether the victim needs to be transported to hospital.
