engine-indicating and crew-alerting system (EICAS) Primary engine indicating and crew alerting system display. Secondary engine indicating and crew alerting system display.A flight-deck display system that displays engine operating data on a cathode-ray tube console, thereby eliminating the need for conventional engine instruments. In the event of a malfunction, the flight crew's attention is drawn to the data, which are displayed automatically with messages in colors appropriate to the degree of urgency. The three normal modes of display are operational, status, and maintenance. The operational mode displays those engine parameters and crew alerts required in flight and provides continuous monitoring of aircraft and engine systems. The status mode displays data needed by the crew to determine the readiness of the aircraft for dispatch and is closely associated with the minimum equipment list. The maintenance mode displays maintenance information to aid the ground crew in the troubleshooting and verification testing of the major subsystems. The maintenance mode is manually selected.
