Anaerococcus

(an″ĕ-rō-kok′ŭs) [ ¹an- + aero- + coccus] A genus of anaerobic gram-positive cocci, formerly classified as members of the genus Peptostreptococcus. They are butyrate-producing saccharolytic bacteria, sometimes pathogenic to humans.
