A descriptive term referring to the appearance of locked facets in the cervical spine on a lateral view of a patient with unilateral rotatory subluxation at and above the site of rotation, an appearance that has been likened to a bow tie or bat wing.
 
Pathology
A descriptive term for the individual cells from the lower uterine segment which have a central stricture (fancifully likened to a bow tie), and appear as short sheets of cells on cytology.
