explosive decompression[ik′splō·siv ‚dē·kəm′presh·ən] (aerospace engineering) A sudden loss of pressure in a pressurized cabin, cockpit, or the like, so rapid as to be explosive, as when punctured by gunfire. explosive decompressionA sudden decrease in the cabin pressure, which may be the result of either some component of the aircraft, like door(s), window, or cockpit canopy, etc. giving way or of a rupture taking place in the structure. As soon as this decompression takes place, the equipment and the personnel tend to be sucked out and the personnel may suffer decompression sickness.
