释义 | Carter, Gary EdmundCarter, Gary Edmund,1954–2012, American baseball player, b. Culver City, Calif. A superb catcher and clutch-hitting right-handed slugger, he played in the majors for 19 years. Drafted (1972) by the Expos, "the Kid" (a reference to his cheerful enthusiasm) was with Montreal from 1974 to 1984 (and finally in 1992). He then played five memorable seasons with New York's Mets. In 1986, in the bottom of the 10th inning of the sixth World Series game, with two out, no one on base, and his team behind, Carter singled to begin a rally that beat the Red Sox and forced a seventh game, which the Mets won. He later played for the San Francisco Giants (1990) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1991). An 11-time All Star and twice All-Star MVP, Carter hit 324 home runs in his career. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. |
