Carryover Artefact

An artefact consisting of tissue fragments from another specimen or area of the same specimen, carried into a section of tissue being examined by microscopy; these artefacts are introduced at the time of the gross examination and are largely due to suboptimal technique by the ‘grosser’; once introduced, they may lead to misinterpretation of histologic findings
