Fita
in ancient Russian church singing, a symbol used in kriukovoe (“hook”) notation in the shape of the Slavic letter θ (fita), which, in combination with several other symbols, marked in abbreviated form the entire melody of a specific vocal ornament. In znamennyi chant there were more than 100 different fity, each with its own name. Collections of the most common fity, that is, the completely notated ornaments expressed in kriukovoe notation, are called fitniki.
