Chust

a city (since 1969) under oblast jurisdiction; the administrative center of Chust Raion, Namangan Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Population, 31,000 (1974). Chust is located on the northern edge of the Fergana valley, 12 km north of the Chust railroad station (on the Kokand-Uchkurgan line). The city has a cotton-cleaning plant and a factory for the production of confectioneries. Artistic goods and traditional knives of the local peoples are also produced.
