Aumann, Robert John,
American-Israeli mathematician, b. Frankfurt, Germany, Ph.D. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1955. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1938, and moved to Israel in 1956, where he has taught at the Hebrew Univ. of Jerusalem for his entire career. A specialist in game theory, he is noted for his work on repeated, or iterated, games. An Orthodox Jew and political conservative, he has also used game theory to analyze Talmud dilemmas and the Arab-Israeli conflict. In 2005 he shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Thomas SchellingSchelling, Thomas Crombie,1921–2016, American economist and political scientist, b.
