Ergaliev, Khamid

 

Born Oct. 14 (27), 1916 in the settlement of Novobogatinskoe, in present-day Gur’ev Oblast. Soviet Kazakh poet. Member of the CPSU from 1944.

Several collections of Ergaliev’s verses and narrative poems have been published. His narrative poems The Confession of a Father (1947), On the Great Road (1949), Girl from Our Aul (1950), Your River (1953), and Kürmangaz’ï (1958; Russian translation, 1964) enrich the epic tradition of Kazakh poetry. Ergaliev depicts workers and the struggle between the old and the new in everyday life and in interpersonal relationships.
