as-built drawingNot infrequently, the owner or contractor of a building under construction will make field modifications to the original architectural or engineering drawings. Ideally, all such modifications should be noted on one set of plans set aside for that purpose. At the completion of the project, the respective professionals will be asked to generate a new set of drawings showing the actual construction details, rather than original designs, so that future work can be planned and executed in a knowledgeable manner with reference to what already exists in the property. In the alternative, long after a building has been constructed, the owner may employ professionals to prepare plans showing all details of the building and its various systems. Both of these result in as-built drawings. |
