Size: 5,600,000 acres.
Location:Extends south and east of Anchorage along the south-central Alaskan Coast. Accessible by highway to Anchorage, Seward, and Kenai. Nearby cities/towns include Anchorage, Cordova, Seward, Valdez, and Whittier.
Facilities:42 cabins, 15 campgrounds, dispersed camping, picnic sites, trails (200 miles).
Activities:Camping, hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, heli-skiing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, salmon viewing.
Special Features:Second largest national forest in the United States. Encompasses Kenai Peninsula, Prince William Sound, and Copper River Delta. At 700,000 acres, the delta is the largest contiguous wetland area remaining on the western coast of the U.S. Begich Boggs Visitor Center, located at the head of Portage Valley, features exhibits focusing on glaciers and Alaska wildlife.
