Fetr may have a smooth or napped finish. Napped fetr is subdivided into several varieties: imitation chamois (when the nap is less than 0.5 mm), short-napped fetr (0.5–1.5 mm), velour (thick standing nap of 1.5–2.5 mm), and shag (uncut nap of 3–12 mm). Fetr may be shaped into hats, berets, and stocking-shaped forms used in manufacturing thin felt boots. It is also produced in the form of sheets, from which shoe parts and technical goods, such as filters and washers, are cut.
