an urban-type settlement, climatic and koumiss-cure health resort in Kokchetav Oblast, Kazakh SSR, 20 km north of the Kurort Borovoe railroad station (city of Shchuchinsk). It is situated on the Kokchetav plateau at an elevation of approximately 480 m, in a pine forest, on the isthmus between Lakes Borovoe and Bol’shoe Chebach’e. Population, 6,100 (1970).

In summer the weather is warm (average July temperature, 20° C), and in winter, moderately cold (average January temperature, -15° C). Annual precipitation is 380 mm. The curative means utilized are the mineral waters of Lake Maibalik, which are used for drinking, and the silty mud of Lake Balpashsor. The resort has a sanatorium for persons suffering from active pulmonary tuberculosis. There are also specialized sanatoriums for persons suffering from diseases of the organs of movement, respiration, and circulation. The resort operates throughout the year. The town has a nature museum. There is hunting in the forests.
