Bororo
Bororo
an Indian tribe in eastern Brazil, living in the southern part of the state of Mato Grosso. Some investigators include the Bororo language in the Gê (Gez) language group, and others consider it isolated. The Bororo economy combined farming, hunting, and fishing. Vestiges of matrilineal tribal relationships were preserved in their way of life. In the 19th century a considerable number of the Bororo were annihilated by Brazilian colonists or assimilated by them. Most of the survivors (there are no population figures) were placed on reservations.
