boron neutron-capture therapy

A form of radiation therapy in which a boron-rich solution is administed IV, which concentrates in tumour cells; the patient is then exposed to a stream of neutrons from a nuclear reactor; the radiation is absorbed by the boron and causes tumour cell lysis without harming normal cells. Boron therapy is not regarded as a mainstream therapeutic modality.
