Borokhoro
Borokhoro
a mountain range in western China, with its westernmost extremity in the Kazakh SSR; in the north it is part of the Eastern Tien-Shan system, between the basin of the Ili River and Lake Ebi-Nur. The range is 250 km long and up to 4,500 m in altitude. It is composed primarily of crystalline and metamorphic rock of the Precambrian and Paleozoic eras. It has a sharply broken narrow ridge. In the eastern part of the range there is alpine-type glaciation (approximately 50 glaciers). On the slopes up to 1,800 m, mountain steppes predominate; from 1,800 to 2,800 m there is a meadow-forest belt (fir and spruce); higher there are alpine meadows and a nival belt. Lake Sairam-Nur is located in the western part of the Borokhovo Range.
