Carl David AndersonAnderson, Carl DavidBorn Sept. 3, 1905, in New York. American physicist. After graduating from the California Institute of Technology in 1927, Anderson became an instructor there. (He has been a professor since 1939.) His main work has been in the areas of X rays, gamma and cosmic rays, and elementary particles. In 1932 he observed positrons in streams of cosmic rays. In 1936, together with the American physicist S. Neddermeyer, he discovered μ-mesons (muons) in cosmic rays. He received the Nobel Prize in 1936. REFERENCEZhdanov, G. B. Luchi iz mirovykh glubin.
