Alisov, Boris Pavlovich

 

Born July 24 (Aug. 5), 1891, in Maloarkhangel’sk, Orel Province. Soviet climatologist. Doctor of geography (1943). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1962). Member of the CPSU since 1954.

Alisov was chairman of the climatology department of the Moscow Institute of Hydrometeorology from 1936 to 1941 and has held the climatology chair of the geography department of Moscow State University since 1941. His main works deal with the geographical aspects of climatology, including the circulation factors in climate formation, genetic classification of the climates of the earth, and climatic re-gionalization of the USSR and other countries. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
