Borisoglebsk
a city in Voronezh Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on the left bank of the Vorona River near its confluence with the Khoper River. It has a railroad station on the Moscow-Volgograd line. Population, 65,000 (1969). It has a chemical machine construction plant, an iron foundry, the Metallist Plant, a milk plant, and a brewery, as well as plants manufacturing radios (branch of the Voronezh plant), lathe patterns, bricks, concrete, and asphalt and concrete. It has a meat-canning combine and bread and flour combines. There are shoe, clothing, and stockings and knitted-goods factories. Borisoglebsk has a pedagogical institute and road-building, evening industrial, agricultural, and mechani-zation-of-accounting technicums, in addition to medical, pedagogical, and music schools. There is a drama theater and a museum of local lore. Borisoglebsk arose in the middle of the 17th century as a fortified outpost.
