Makaseev, Boris Konstantinovich

 

Born May 29 (June 11), 1907, in Moscow. Soviet cameraman. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1965). Member of the CPSU (1958).

In 1927, Makaseev graduated from the State Technicum of Cinematography. In 1936-37 he was in Spain where he filmed the Spanish people’s struggle against fascism; his film footage became part of the newsreel Events in Spain and the documentary films Spain (1939) and Granada, Granada, Granada Mine! (1968). During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, Makaseev directed film groups at the front. He took part in the filming of The Rout of German Armies Near Moscow (1942), The People’s Avengers (1943), The Battle of Sevastopol’, (1944), Victory Parade (1945), and People’s Verdict (1946). He made the film I Serve the Working People (1968).

Makaseev received the State Prize of the USSR (1946, 1947, 1948, 1951); he has been awarded three orders and a number of medals.
