Aleksandrov, Boris Kapitonovich
Born Aug. 6 (18), 1889, in Dzaudzhikau. Soviet hydraulic engineer. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1953.
Aleksandrov graduated from the Petrograd Polytechnical Institute in 1917. From 1918 on, he designed hydroelectric power plants and taught at higher educational institutions. In 1946 he began teaching at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where he became a professor in 1948. He helped design the Moscow Canal and work out the plan and construction of the Rybinsk and Uglich hydroelectric power system. Aleksandrov specialized in utilizing the energy of large rivers of the plains of the European USSR (the Volga and its tributaries), in diverting the flow of northern and other rivers into the Caspian Sea, and in designing hydroelectric power installations. He designed the spillway-type Kama Hydroelectric Power Plant and the multicham-bered Kama navigation lock. He has been awaided the Order of Lenin, the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
