Andreev, Boris Fedorovich
Born Jan. 27 (Feb. 9), 1915, in Saratov. Soviet Russian actor, People’s Artist of the USSR (1962). Member of the CPSU since 1948. Graduated from the Saratov Theatrical School.
Andreev’s first roles in films were Nazar Duma (The Tractor Operatbrs, 1939) and Khariton Balun (The Big Life, 1940). Andreev played simple, good-natured fellows; in these and later films he embodied the sincere generosity and expansiveness of the Russian national character. Other such roles included Sasha Sintsov (Two Fighters, 1943) and Burliuk (Story of the Siberian Land, 1948). During the 1950’s, dramatic roles were preeminent in his repertoire. His best performances were as Savva Zarudnyi (Poem of the Sea, 1958), Lazar’ Baukin (Cruelty, 1959), General Glazunov (Tale of the Fiery Years, 1961), and Rossomakha (Road to the Moorage, 1962). In 1963 he played the role of
Vozhak (“the Leader”) in the film The Optimistic Tragedy (after the play of the same name by Vs. Vishnevskii). He twice received the State Prize of the USSR (1948 and 1950) and has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and medals.
