Electronic Blue Sheet

A form that clearing firms submit to the SEC to record transactions. The term derives its name from the fact that forms were actual blue sheets before electronic submission became common.

electronic blue sheet (EBS)

The electronic format for clearing firms to submit security trading records to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Information was submitted manually on blue paper until the late 1980s. The SEC and self-regulatory organizations use the EBS format to conduct surveillance and enforcement inquiries.
