electronic attitude director/display indicator (EADI)

An electronic instrument that replaces the artificial horizon found in non-EFIS (electronic flight instrument system) aircraft. It has a number of advantages over the older “round dial” display instruments, such as more reliability; ability to display more information; and improved readability from larger, clearer, color displays and automatic adjustment of brightness to compensate for rapid changes in cockpit lighting levels, such as when flying in and out of clouds. EADI is an integral part of any glass cockpit.
