deposition of acellular hyaline material in small arteries and arterioles of the leptomeninges and cerebral cortex in the elderly with resulting predilection for recurrent lobar intraparenchymal hematomas.

amyloid angiopathy

An abnormality of cerebral blood vessels in which amyloid is deposited in the walls of small arteries and arterioles. It may occur in those with chronic infectious and inflammatory disorders or B-cell lymphoma and is a common contributor to intracerebral hemorrhage or Alzheimer's disease in the elderly.
