d'Arsonval galvanometer
d'Arsonval galvanometer[′dars·ən‚vȯl gal·və′näm·əd·ər] (engineering) A galvanometer in which a light coil of wire, suspended from thin copper or gold ribbons, rotates in the field of a permanent magnet when current is carried to it through the ribbons; the position of the coil is indicated by a mirror carried on it, which reflects a light beam onto a fixed scale. Also known as light-beam galvanometer. d'Arsonval galvanometer
d'Ar·son·val gal·va·nom·e·ter (dahr-sahn-vahl'), a sensitive galvanometer consisting of a moving coil suspended in a permanent magnetic field between delicate metallic wires or ribbons that serve as both torsion springs and conductors; a mirror on the coil deflects a beam of light along the scale.d'Arsonval, Jacques Arsène, French biophysicist, 1851-1940. d'Arsonval current - an alternating electric current having a frequency of 10,000 or more per second.
