alkylglycerol
alkylglycerol
Fringe oncologyA compound esterified with a fatty acid. The most abundant source of alkylglycerols is shark liver oil; it also can be found in red blood cells (erythrocytes), bone marrow, liver, spleen and breast milk. Alkylglycerols, in particular butyl alcohol, stimulate haematopoiesis and the immune system.
While shark liver oil has been heavily promoted as a dietary supplement for preventing or for managing leukaemias and other malignancies, there is no supporting scientific evidence.
