Acquired Hyperlipidaemia

A generic term for an increase in serum triglycerides and/or cholesterol due to non-inherited factors—e.g., obesity and overweight, poor diet (saturated fats—red meat, egg yolks, high-fat dairy products; trans fatty acids—commercial processed foods), drugs (oral contraceptives, oestrogen, corticosteroids, some diuretics, beta blockers, and certain antidepressants), endocrinopathies (diabetes, hypothyroidism, Cushing syndrome, polycystic ovary disease), bad habits (smoking, alcohol, sedentary lifestyle).
